Westfront 1918: Vier von der Infanterie (1930)
33KWestfront 1918: Vier von der Infanterie: Directed by Georg Wilhelm Pabst. With Fritz Kampers, Gustav Diessl, Hans-Joachim Möbis, Claus Clausen. A group of German solders fight on the front line in France at the end of World War I.
“It is incredible that the U.S. and Germany, in between two Great World Wars, would simultaneously produce two very similarly-themed films – this one, and u0026quot;All Quiet on the Western Frontu0026quot; (1930). The sounds of war are eerily alike – relentless, disturbing, horrifying u0026quot;Westfront 1918u0026quot; is less drama, and more documentary-style than its cousin. The war scenes are remarkable; but so is an interlude when Gustav Diessl (as Karl) goes on leave, expertly directed by G.W. Pabst. This part is slightly better than the Lew Ayres (as Paul) leave in u0026quot;All Quiet on the Western Frontu0026quot;; and, it is more realistic. However, u0026quot;Westfront 1918u0026quot; is less memorable in its final u0026quot;emotion grabbingu0026quot; scene (and, overall). Still, itu0026#39;s an excellent film. u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e******** Westfront 1918 (1930) G.W. Pabst ~ Gustav Diessl, Fritz Kampers, Hans-Joachim Moebis”
