Manson Speaks: Inside the Mind of a Madman: Directed by Michael Haertlein, Aric Laferriere. With Michael Channels, Mark E. Safarik. A two-part documentary totalling four hours about a cold case murder concerning a young woman named Reet Jurvetsen. Originally from Montreal, Canada, the woman was found stabbed 150+ times in November 1969 by the side of Mulholland Drive, down the road from where the Tate murders occurred months earlier. In this program, the cold case detectives note that the identity of the victim was uncovered recently (previously known as “Jane Doe #59”) and that the MO is similar to the Manson murders, so they go about interviewing several people associated with the Manson family and murders in an attempt to link Reet’s death with them. They also attempt to find out if John Haught’s so-called suicide, which occurred 10 day’s prior to Reet’s murder was really a suicide. In the process, the probable true motive for the LaBianca murders is revealed. Throughout the program, there are excerpts played from recordings of phone calls a man named Marlin had with Charles Manson during his years of incarceration, thus the title.

“Charles Manson is one of the more infamous of Madmen.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eMost documentaries are loaded with bias – u0026#39;againstu0026#39; or u0026#39;in favour ofu0026#39;…nThe hype to prove Charles Manson a madman, coupled with the majority of material on CM, that is available for public viewing, is against him.nThe Title of this documentary speaks volumes as to which side of the fence itu0026#39;s on u0026amp; thatu0026#39;s without viewing its content.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIt gets 10/10 for u0026#39;Interestu0026#39;.nCharles Manson is a fascinating subject and the documentary is interesting.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe general consensus is that CM is guilty as charged – fair enough or justice served – you might say, But should he be labelled a u0026#39;madmanu0026#39; is the same arguments put forward by a defence lawyer when other murders want to reduce their jail time u0026amp; claim u0026#39;diminished responsibilitiesu0026#39;.”
