“Lee Mn-Jaeu0026#39;s 2019 film, u0026quot;The Odd Family, Zombie on Saleu0026quot; seems to be maybe South Korea u0026#39;s first entry to the Zombie comedy genre. Thereu0026#39;s a lot of references to Millennial u0026quot;Zom-Comu0026quot; films such as u0026quot;Shaun of the Deadu0026quot;, u0026quot;Warm Bodiesu0026quot; and u0026quot;Zombielandu0026quot; but also straightforward Zombie films, like George E. Romerou0026#39;s 2005 u0026quot;Land of the Deadu0026quot;.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eItu0026#39;s story centers around the u0026quot;Parku0026quot; family owning a gas station that take a young man, Hyon-woou0026quot; (nicknamed later as u0026quot;Jongbie, the Petu0026quot;) who develops u0026quot;zombieu0026quot; characteristic behavior. The family consists of a married couple (with wife expecting), their father plus a young girl, u0026quot;Hae-Gulu0026quot; in which u0026quot;Jongbieu0026quot; develops a crush on. The obvious enemy here is an illegal pharmaceutical company called u0026quot;Human Biou0026quot;, doing experiments on humans… does this plot sound familiar to you?u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAgain, if you like these referenced films, Min-Jaeu0026#39;s film is for you. Otherwise, he does not offer anything new or original here. But the quality of acting, set production and special effects are very good. In its Midwest premiere, Min-Jae stated that his wife co-wrote the script and that the fact u0026quot;zombiesu0026quot; belong to Haitian Vodou. He further said that in fact, the idea of the u0026quot;living deadu0026quot; can be also found in Korean lore.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eWhen asked if there will be a sequel, he said (in a joking manner) maybe when the baby character grows up to be 20 years old… he will pursue a sequel! If you are interested on an international perspective on how filmmakers have taken on the u0026quot;zombieu0026quot; genre, then u0026quot;The Odd Family, Zombie on Saleu0026quot; is for you!”
