Driver: Directed by Walter Hill. With Ryan O’Neal, Bruce Dern, Isabelle Adjani, Ronee Blakley. A getaway driver becomes the latest assignment for a tenacious detective.

“How underrated is Walter Hill?! u0026#39;The Driveru0026#39; is one of his least known movies to a mainstream audience, but one of his best loved among fans. Itu0026#39;s one of the greatest action movies Iu0026#39;ve ever seen, with car chases as exciting as any filmed before or since. The characters are all archetypes and named after their roles. Thereu0026#39;s no traditional character development here, but the actors and the action get the point across. Ryan Ou0026#39;Neal plays a getaway driver, the best in his field. Bruce Dern is the cop obsessed with catching him. Heu0026#39;s willing to do anything to do so, even setting him up. Iu0026#39;m a major fan of Dern. I think heu0026#39;s one of the most interesting Hollywood actors and u0026#39;The Driveru0026#39; is yet another great performance from him an a career filled with them (u0026#39;The Wild Angelsu0026#39;, u0026#39;Bloody Mamau0026#39;, u0026#39;Silent Runningu0026#39;, u0026#39;Coming Homeu0026#39;,etc.etc.) And Ryan Ou0026#39;Neal, an actor Iu0026#39;ve never warmed to, is surprisingly effective is a role originally intended for Steve McQueen. Plus you get Isabelle Adjani (u0026#39;The Tenantu0026#39;), always a pleasure to watch. Iu0026#39;d put u0026#39;The Driveru0026#39; up there with the original versions of u0026#39;Vanishing Pointu0026#39;, u0026#39;The Getawayu0026#39; and u0026#39;Gone In 60 Secondsu0026#39; as the most underrated action thrillers of the 1970s. Why it has yet to be remade is a mystery, but hoping it isnu0026#39;t as it will undoubtedly suck. Hollywood just seems to have lost the ability to make these kinds of movies. u0026#39;The Driveru0026#39; is expertly directed by Walter Hill, who also scripted. Also check out u0026#39;The Warriorsu0026#39; and u0026#39;Southern Comfortu0026#39; for the best of Hill. Heu0026#39;s a hell of a film maker and rarely gets the attention he deserves.”
