When James Lawrence (aka the Iron Cowboy) announced his plan to complete 50 Ironman distances in 50 consecutive days in all 50 states, the only person who believed that he could pull it off was James himself. An Iron Man distance consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. completing one race is considered a lifetime achievement. With the support of his wife, Sunny, and their five children in tow, Lawrence pushes himself to the point of breaking. This is an unbelievable mental and physical journey that redefines the limits of what is humanly possible.
User Reviews: Although there is no question that doing 50 triathlons over 50 consecutive days is a remarkable athletic achievement, why was it necessary for James Lawrence to travel to all 50 states to do them? I mean, he wasn’t participating in organized events; he went to all that extra trouble and expense just to jump into a pool in some other state and bike and run on some other roads. Why not simply stay at home and do the distances in his own pool and neighborhood over 50 consecutive days, and avoid the unnecessary wear and tear on his family, his friends, and himself? All that the frenetic travel accomplished was to add sleep deprivation and stress to all concerned – increasing the risk of harm to his own mental and physical health.
