Ga yau hei si (1992)
23KGa yau hei si: Directed by Clifton Ko. With Leslie Cheung, Stephen Chow, Raymond Pak-Ming Wong, Maggie Cheung. A romantic Chinese New Year comedy about the three Shang brothers. Eldest brother Shang Moon is a philandering businessman who treats his hideous yet hard-working wife like dirt. Middle brother Shang Foon is a disc jockey/playboy who tries to score with as many girls as possible. Youngest brother Shang So is an obviously gay dance instructor. Moon soon gets the tables turned on him as his wife leaves to become a glamorous karaoke hostess, and Foon gets into a bizarre relationship with a fan so obsessed with movies that she constantly acts out characters on dates, until he suddenly becomes temporarily mentally ill. And So is continually at odds with obvious butch lesbian family cousin. Hilarity ensues.
“A large extended family lives in a large up-scale estate. The three adult brothers of the house each have a clear and unique personality. The gay brother is very gay. The oldest brother is very successful, but is a sleazy wife cheater. And the younger brother is an unattached, carefree playboy.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe female characters are also clearly potrayed… The housewife is so geeky looking, everything she does is funny to watch. Her husbandu0026#39;s classy mistress is very high maintenance. The lesbian cousin is very… well, manly. The unmarried brotheru0026#39;s main girlfriend is crazy about movies.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eu0026quot;ALLu0026#39;S WELL ENDS WELLu0026quot; smartly spoofs the movie GHOST, and also spends some time poking fun at PRETTY WOMAN, THE TERMINATOR, and even MISERY.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe plot twists and turns with more skill than most Hong Kong comedies ever muster. Also, some of the romantic ploys seen in the movie are fun and clever.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAlthough there are fewer laughs in the last 30 minutes, ALLu0026#39;S WELL, ENDS WELL is a fun view — specially for those who enjoy spoof movies.”
