Sibha kham doan sib ed: Directed by Jira Maligool. With Thidarat Chareonchaichana, Noppadol Duangporn, Boonchai Limathibul, Jonathan Morrill. More than 100,000 people gather by the Mekong River in North-East Thailand on November Full Moon every year. After sunset, mysterious fireballs rise up from the river and disappear into the sky. Where do the fireballs come from? While the locals still adhere to the traditional myth that they are the dragon, Great Naga, making a sacred offering to Buddha, the Western visitors take a more skeptical stance: Dr. Norati sets out to prove that the fireballs are natural while Dr. Surapol wants to prove the phenomenon a hoax. Meanwhile, temple-custodian Abbot Loh believes his monks have been responsible for the “miracle” for the past 30 years.

“Mekong Full Moon Party focuses on the mysterical event on the Nong Khai province of Thailand on every October, where unidentified fireballs pops up from the Mekong River. To the locals, it is believed to be the fireball made from naga, a holy creature in Buddhism; while to the scientists/modernists, it is done by the force of nature.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eThe movie is well-researched, focusing on different arguments from different sides. However, one thing that makes the movie less realistic/lack the originality is the leading character is not from the Northeast of Thailand and lack the skills of speaking from the Issan or Lao accent.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eTo the Thai, this is a big flaw, but to the non-Thais this might not be the case.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eBut to conclude, it is one of the best films focusing on this event. Beautifully made!”
