Double Feature (1984). 1h 55m

“Lively and emotive drama set in Asturias and Madrid , being professionally realized by Jose Luis Garci. Decent and attractive film from the Academy Award winning director of ¨Volver a Empezar¨ . Enjoyable and nostalgic drama with mood pieces and thought-provoking dialogue , though overtalking . A movie director (Adolfo Marsillach) , separated from his wife and with two children with whom he barely has a relationship, is preparing a new film, u0026quot;Iu0026#39;m Depressed Slowlyu0026quot; financed by a demanding producer (Jose Bodalo) , collaborating on the script with his friend Federico (Jesús Puente) who has just been abandoned by his wife (Encarna Paso) to enter a convent as a nun. Theyu0026#39;re working on a film together about growing old and connecting with the younger generation. One thing is the cinema and another, much more dangerous, life !.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eDirector José Luis Garci focuses one of the main themes of his films, loneliness , in stagy style , although in a much more acid tone than on previous occasions. Itu0026#39;s an intelligent and touching story although sometimes is slow moving and tiring but is finely developed with sense of style and sensibility . Very pleasant drama , plenty of sensitivity , emotion , artistic scenes and stunning acting . ¨Cinema within cinema¨, the film pays an intimate tribute to the seventh art and specially directors as Billy Wilder , John Ford , Alfred Hitchcock, William Wyler , Frank Capra and Luis Buñuel . In 1985 u0026quot;Sesion continuau0026quot; was nominated Oscar Best Foreign Language Film . Interesting screenplay by Jose Luis Garci and Horacio Valcarcel ; in fact, Garci often co-writes his scripts with his friend Horacio Valcarcel . The film tells the story of the friendship between two men who live their lives through movies. Starring two professionals Aldolfo Marsillach (Jose Luis Garci) and Jesus Puente ( Horacio Valcarcel) whose lives are fuller inside than outside of celluloid. A film with long shots and theatrical tone, supported by incisive dialogues and brilliant performances by Marsillach and Puente, who replaced Alfredo Landa and José Sacristán almost at the last moment , but both actors refused for having other professional commitments and because of professional rivalry between them. .As Marsillach is pretty good as a director who is having trouble connecting with his children as well as shooting a troubled film and Jesús Puente is nice as a screenwriter and playwright who is having trouble with his wife. Being well accompanied by a good support cast giving nice interpretations , such as María Casanova, José Bódalo, Encarna Paso , Víctor Valverde , Emma Suárez , Yolanda Rios, Juan Calot , Jesús Hermida, Rafael Hernández , among others .u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eNominated for an Oscar to Best Non-English Speaking Film, two years after Garci won the Academy award for ¨Volver A Empezar¨. The motion picture was compellingly directed by Jose Luis Garci (El Crack I, II, Luz Domingo, El Abuelo, Sangre de Mayo) . José Luis Garci is without a doubt one of the most influential film personalities in the history of film in Spain and perhaps the best known writer in the country. He has left a distinguished talent in his successful movies throughout the years: La Cabina (1972), Las Verdes Praderas (1979), El Crack (1981), Volver a Empezar (1982), Canción De Cuna (1994), La Herida Luminosa (1997), El Abuelo (1998), Tiovivo c. 1950 (2004) and Ninette (2005) , among others. Rating : Acceptable and well worth seeing . For these reasons is essential and indispensable watching , but appointed to José Luis Garci fans .”
