“Pros:u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– Storyu0026#39;s uninspired, but not so bad. Same goes for cinematography and direction.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– Lead actor playing u0026quot;Johnnyu0026quot; is trying so hard to be Brad Pitt, itu0026#39;s almost charming. Youu0026#39;ll find yourself saying, u0026quot;Aww, look at the guy trying to be Brad Pitt…u0026quot;u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– I love this guy u0026quot;Red,u0026quot; the auto junkyard owner who trains Johnny in racing. Heu0026#39;s so authentically and simultaneously grizzled and whimsical, youu0026#39;ll think heu0026#39;s the child of an unholy union between Nick Nolte and Michael J. Pollard.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– The actor who plays rival racer u0026quot;Mickey Stilesu0026quot; is obviously coked up throughout the whole movie. No oneu0026#39;s that good an actor. But it works. Keep this actor on coke. (BTW, IMDb says heu0026#39;s the freakinu0026#39; voice of u0026quot;Putt Puttu0026quot; from my kidsu0026#39; video games!)u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eCons:u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– The racing scenes are so obviously shot in fast motion youu0026#39;ll half expect Boots Randolphu0026#39;s u0026quot;Yakety Saxu0026quot; to be playing in the background.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– But you wonu0026#39;t hear u0026quot;Yakety Saxu0026quot; because the same nondescript hip-hop song, which consists of nobody rappers yelling, u0026quot;WHAT AROUND HERE!u0026quot; over and over, underscores every race. As if it means something. But it doesnu0026#39;t.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– Danielu0026#39;s father and sister are obviously somebodyu0026#39;s relatives or friends. Actors this bad and ugly donu0026#39;t get cast without knowing a producer or somebody.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– Helicopter turn-by-turn in the last race comes out of nowhere with no explanation, while the view from helicopter shows no race at all, just some highway traffic. Who are they? Radio traffic reporters? Cops? And why do they talk like surfer dudes?u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– Final, climactic racing scene comes and goes so quickly, you wonu0026#39;t even realize it, because it consists almost entirely of close-ups of drivers yelling, u0026quot;Come on! Come on!u0026quot;u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003e– Bad guy parole officer is so suitable a dou©ebag that you want him to really get it at the end. But when it finally happens, you wonu0026#39;t stop laughing. Really, hours later, you wonu0026#39;t stop laughing.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eFinal verdict: I bought u0026quot;Street Raceru0026quot; for a buck from a Blockbuster that was going out of business, knowing full well that stocking movies like this helped put Blockbuster out of business. It was worth a buck and 90 minutes of my time. It will be on a blanket in my driveway at my next tag sale.”
