Mein Name ist Nobody: Directed by Tonino Valerii. With Terence Hill, Henry Fonda, Jean Martin, R.G. Armstrong. A young, easy-going gunman worships and competes with an old gunfighter who only wants to retire.

“The title u0026quot;My name is Nobodyu0026quot; was, I think, taken from a text in Homeru0026#39;s Odyssey which Odysseus said to Cyclops, the one-eyed giant. And, indeed, if one considers that fact one could better see what this filmu0026#39;s message is: While old Jack Beauregard could, after a long voyage, at last go home to Europe, u0026quot;Nobodyu0026quot; was destined to continue his odyssey far from home in countries that were never his cultural homeland.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eAlbeit the film itself is a parody of other westerns, of u0026#39;Cu0026#39;era una volta il Westu0026#39; and/or u0026#39;The wild bunchu0026#39; for example, and therefore should be (and is in fact) comical and funny, one nevertheless hears a slightly melancholy song sung by/about Odysseus(= Nobody) who had forgotten his homeland. Owing to that (please let me dare say)u0026#39;depthu0026#39;, u0026#39;Il mio nome e nessunou0026#39; succeeded in being far more than a simple parody and in appealing not only to u0026#39;genre fansu0026#39; but also to u0026#39;generalu0026#39; movie lovers: Fondau0026#39;s brilliant performance, Fonda and Terence Hillu0026#39;s unique combination, Morriconeu0026#39;s perfect score. Itu0026#39;s all really tasty.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eI still remember that a Japanese film critic at that time has rated this film low, because u0026#39;it was a spaghetti western made by an assistant of Sergio Leoneu0026#39;. But when I myself saw the film later, I (please excuse me for being cheeky and cocky) doubted his eye of a film critic: Why hasnu0026#39;t he seen that this film clearly stood out from other Italian westerns? Why has he ignored the fact that Tonino Valerii could make excellent westerns without Leone and without Morricone? (I of course mean u0026#39;Il prezzo del potereu0026#39; and u0026#39;I giorni dellu0026#39;irau0026#39;.)”
