Requiem for a Village (1976)
44KRequiem for a Village: Directed by David Gladwell. With Roger Burroughes. The idyllic, rural past of a Suffolk village comes to life through the memories of an old man who tends a country graveyard, in this extraordinary, film directed by David Gladwell. Although best known for his celebrated work as editor on Lindsay Anderson’s If…. and O Lucky Man!, Gladwell has, until now, rarely been recognised as the director of a number of ground-breaking films. This title is also available on DVD / Blu-ray in the BFI’s Flipside collection.
“Watched this film on amazon prime, you can get a BFI subscription (£4) to add bfi films to your amazon prime account, I did this so I could watch Bait. Anyway what about this film, slow ? yes but thatu0026#39;s good, music ? wonderful, cinematography ? beautiful, script ? minimal but thatu0026#39;s good to. Made in 1975 but itu0026#39;s still relevant today with our ever changing world and more and more greenbelt being swallowed up by roads and houses. Loved how it told the life of the village through the memories (good and bad) of the old gentleman. I wonu0026#39;t spoil it but some of the scenes are a little unsettling in the context of the film. But apart from that a lovely film well worth a watch.”
