Paranoid Park: Directed by Gus Van Sant. With Gabe Nevins, Daniel Liu, Jake Miller, Taylor Momsen. A teenage skateboarder’s life begins to fray after he is involved in the accidental death of a security guard.

“u0026quot;Paranoid Parku0026quot; is about what is going on in the head of a teenage boy after he has experienced a shattering trauma. He is dislocated and remote and u0026#39;not all thereu0026#39;, or is he just in shock? It really is up to the audience to decide for themselves, because in an experimental movie like this one, no easy answers are forthcoming.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eIn general I quite like Gus Van Santu0026#39;s films, but be aware that you need to judge each of his films on their own merits. This is hardly the Gus Van Sant of Hollywoodian mild indie fare like u0026quot;To Die Foru0026quot;, u0026quot;Psychou0026quot;, u0026quot;Good Will Huntingu0026quot; or u0026quot;Finding Forresteru0026quot;. Stylistically u0026quot;Paranoid Parku0026quot; is a close cousin to his later u0026quot;Elephantu0026quot;. Low key, quiet, internalised, sometimes naturalistic, but often dreamy, and with a chronologically fractured time line. None of the actors seemed to be acting at all. Brilliant casting or brilliant acting? I am unsure.u003cbr/u003eu003cbr/u003eNot for everybody.”
